What you'll hear in Kagoshima

Sakurajima. You are standing near a place that has been changing its shape for thousands of years.
Mount Kirishima. You are looking at a whole family of volcanoes rather than a single mountain.
Mount Kaimon (Kaimondake). That near-perfect cone in front of you is Kaimondake, and locals call it Satsuma Fuji for good reason.
Shinmoedake. This is the most restless peak in the Kirishima cluster, a stratovolcano standing about 1,423 meters high in southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture.
Lake Ikeda. This broad sheet of water is the largest caldera lake on Kyushu, sitting inside an old volcanic crater about 40 kilometers south of Kagoshima city.
Ibusuki. Welcome to Ibusuki, an onsen town near the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, looking out over Kagoshima Bay.
